About CSCI
Tom Carbeck (1940 – 1992) was a strong advocate of education and research
in the structural building components industry. In recognition of his efforts,
the industry trade association, the Structural Building Components Association (SBCA) [formerly the Wood Truss Council of America], established a fund in Tom’s name in
2002. The Carbeck Structural Components Institute is an initiative of the SBC Foundation and Endowment, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization advancing the SBC industry’s mission to educate the marketplace about components and conduct research on component framing.
Objective
The Carbeck Structural Components Institute's goal is to provide the fire prevention sector with information concerning
how to effectively and safely put out fires in structures that include
structural building components. This work is designed to improve the safety, efficiencies and technology
that currently exist in the structural framing of buildings. Likewise, this work aims to reduce
the frequency and severity of construction defects in design or workmanship
with respect to the structural framing of buildings.
